New British fighter concept – the next generation Tempest aircraft

The United Kingdom has unveiled a futuristic fighter jet that will be able to target Britain's enemies without a pilot. The jet, named Tempest, was revealed by Defence Minister Gavin Williamson at the Farnborough Airshow on July 16th.

The aircraft is made with use of stealth technology. Its sophisticated construction will include, among others, autonomous capabilities, enabling it to fly either with a drone or with a pilot on board. he jet will may enter service as early as 2035 as an eventual replacement for the Eurofighter Typhoon and fly alongside the Lockheed F-35.

Officials say that the Tempest will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to ensure its weapons hit their targets. That futuristic aircraft will also carry energy weapons that fire concentrated bursts of laser, microwave or particle beams to inflict damage. To sped up repair and maintenance processes on the ground the RAF will use special robots in addition to human crews.

The project itself is very important to UK. It will certainly help with new technologies development but it will also provide more than 18,000 highly-skilled British jobs.
